( HE HAS TASTED his own blood before without meaning, knows too well the metallic tang of it when sticking to the spaces between his teeth, when it pours from a nose broken so many times he’s lost count and filters through his curled lips. he’s memorized it like he has the trigger action of his revolver, but doubts he’ll ever get used to the mineral bite on his tongue. doubts he’ll ever get past the ghosted nausea that always follows.
this happens like he expects it to. it’s another body, but it’s still his, and jesse considers himself an expert on the subject. he’s familiar with the layout, trusts his hands to alight where they please, balled tight in cotton and chipping leather. jesse’s skin is rough, chafing red against the other’s untrimmed growth — taste of his own medicine, he thinks, mind all but detached from the sharp motions of his figure — but it’s not the abrasions which send him reeling, if just for a moment. it’s himself.
the scent of old tobacco and bourbon sweats and gunpowder, desert air and cactus blossoms — inhaling it feels like choking on his own blood. yet this is a dry asphyxiation, and jesse hates the masochistic streak that keeps his mouth plied hard against another, that accepts the dizziness which takes hold when his tongue grazes slickly over the cracks in his lips for enjoyment rather than what is it: shock.
he hasn’t been counting the seconds, but he knows it hasn’t been long when his body takes over, rejects the contact his head had been too weak to. it’s the fist twisted rigidly in the other’s shirt which does it, the shoving, the creation of space between them. severed mirror images. jesse feels his own chest rise and fall with breath, hastened, fevered. sick. )
